Prayer Ministries

In prayer Welcome to the Heart of Unity of Toledo... Prayer.

Prayer is an inseparable part of spiritual life. At Unity of Toledo, prayer is a conscious connection with God and a service to our world. Prayer in its purest and simplest form is simply letting go of human will and perception to allow the Divine to be revealed through our mind and heart. It is in prayer that one can come to recognize the "still small voice" of God.

Prayer support is available through our Silent Prayer Ministry Team and our Prayer Chaplain Ministry Team.

The Silent Prayer Ministry of Unity Of Toledo
Each week members of the congregation are invited to place requests for prayer in the prayer box at the back of the sanctuary. From there, the requests are disseminated to the members of the Silent Prayer Team Ministry who hold in consciousness divine order for each of the requests for 30 days. The requests are then sent to Silent Unity, where they are held in prayer for an additional 30 days. In addition to the prayer requests, congregants may request prayer calls or letters and a prayer listing in the Sunday bulletin.

Prayer Chaplain Ministry Team
Unity of Toledo's Prayer Chaplain Program empowers people to pray with one another, recognizing God’s presence and power in every moment. Our Prayer Chaplains are here to support you in prayer, knowing what a great blessing it is to pray with another.

Prayer support is offered in a confidential, non-judgmental atmosphere of unconditional love in times of decision, need, crisis, or working toward dreams and goals. We know that prayer has extraordinary power and that with God all things are possible.

All of our Prayer Ministry services offer a condition in which individuals can feel loved and cared about. Through providing prayer support, our prayer teams reach out to those in need. The sense of community support is at the heart of the Prayer Ministry services at Unity of Toledo.

These dymanic prayer ministry teams welcome anyone who would like to join them in an uplifting experience supporting of the ministry of Unity Of Toledo.

About Prayer

Prayer is that steady effort to know the presence of God. It is something we do for ourselves, not for God.
Prayer is the lifting of our consciousness above appearances and experiences.
Prayer is our inner contact with Divine wisdom, understanding, and inspiration.
Prayer is our inner awareness that the spirit of truth within us is ready to teach us all things.

Prayer changes our consciousness, God doesn’t “grant” our prayers.
Prayer opens us to recognize and accept the good in our lives.
Prayer smoothes the way for us to realize God in every situation.
Prayer is the most effective means of knowing our union with God.

Five Steps of Highly Effectual Prayer

(For the sake of demonstration the example prayer request is a need for healing of the body.)

1. Recognition
Names the qualities that God is, choosing to highlight the God-qualities pertinent to a particular prayer need can bring a deeper level of understanding to the Truth of a situation.

“God is Love, God is Peace, God is Perfect Health, God is the Source of all Good…”

Example: God is perfect health, that which animates all of life, that which permeates every cell of every being, that which expresses as wholeness of body, mind & spirit.

2. Unification
Claims the God-qualities named in the Recognition step as one’s own nature, verifying one’s identity as Spirit.

“I am one with God, One with that Divine Love, Divine Peace, Perfect Health, One with the Source of all that is…”

Example: I am one with God. The perfect health that is God expresses as me. That which animates all of life, animates me. That which permeates every cell of every being, permeates every cell of my being. That which expresses as wholeness of body, mind & spirit, expresses as wholeness through my body, mind & spirit.

3. Realization
Applies the Spiritual Truth to the human experience, answers the question “what is the Spiritual Truth about this situation.” This step specifies the particular context of concern in this prayer through an affirmation statement.

Example: I am perfect expression of God’s perfection. My body manifests perfect wholeness, my mind manifests healthy thoughts, my spirit is free with the freedom of Truth.

4. Thanksgiving
An expression of gratitude for knowing the Truth

“I give thanks for this understanding, for this knowing and for this opportunity of consciousness.

Example: I am eternally grateful. Every cell in my body – the very essence of my soul is filled to overflowing with gratitude.

5. Release
This is the release of the prayer itself into the Law of Infinite Mind, letting it go and do its work in the universe.

“I let go and let God…”

Example: I now release this prayer to the perfect outworking of Divine Law, knowing that is made manifest now! And so it is – Amen.

Prayer Classes at Unity of Toledo

An Inspiring and Exhilarating Experience!
The 1st tier prayer classes, Life of Prayer and Introduction to Prayer and Meditation, are five-week classes designed to help all those who desire more depth in their spiritual practice and to gain insight and understanding of the role and practice of prayer.

The 2nd tier prayer class is, Transformative Prayer, requiring one of the two 1st tier prayer classes as a prerequisite for registration. This 7-week class is designed to open doors to fulfillment in your daily experience and direct your course of life in positive and enriching ways. Each student will learn, practice and embody a specific prayer technique that will allow them to confidently pray for themselves and others.

It is through these classes that Prayer helps support the congregation in deepening their spiritual practice and becoming comfortable with the process and practice of prayer.

The Prayer Classes are held once a year in late winter early spring and are taught by our Minister with the support of the Prayer Ministry teams. These classes highly recommended for those who have never tried prayer, or those who are not satisfied with the way they pray.

Meditation

Finding peace and relaxation
Meditation offers refreshing peace and the relaxation of inner calmness. It also develops concentration which is essential for success in other activities. Meditation can offer an experience that can bring greater joy and fulfillment than any other human activity.
Studies have shown that meditation provides a healthy balance in life. It expands a person's world view and enhances coping skills for dealing with day-to-day life stresses.

Meditation Basics

Follow these easy steps to finding peace in meditation

•Choose a place where you can sit calmly without any disturbance. Sit in a posture in which you feel comfortable for a long period of time. Rest your hands on your knees. Choosing a consistent time and place will help foster the daily habit of meditation.

•Keep your back straight so you can breath into your abdomen and the energy flow is not disrupted.

•Close your eyes and imagine you are trying to gaze at the area between your eyebrows. Or keep your eyes open and find something to focus on, the flame of a candle or a spiritual symbol work well.

•Do not force your self to feel or see anything. Simply relax, breathing deeply from your center. You may wish to count your breaths in cycles of 10. Breath in- count 1, breath out- count 2, breath in- count 3, and so on, starting over at 1 when you have reach breath out-count 10.

•A flow of thoughts may begin which do not normally arise. Do not try to stop the flow of thoughts. Each time your thoughts intrude, try again to concentrate on the area between your eyebrows, the candle, or your breath.

•Practice these steps for approximately 30 minutes daily.
